How To Stop Forgetting Payments
Life is busy; we all can't be on top of everything all the time. Making on-time payments on your debts are crucial to maintaining a good credit score so how can you make sure you never forget a payment again?
Having an organized life has an obvious upside when it comes to your personal finances. If you can simply remember to pay every bill every month then you are lucky - but we all encounter times that are overwhelming or distracting and they can have some long-lasting negative effects on your credit score.
Keep Some Kind Of Calendar
The easiest way to get on top of your financial life is to create a calendar either on your phone or a hard copy that you will see on a daily basis. Make sure to clearly mark the due dates for all of your various payments so you will see them over and over and can never forget.
If you create a calendar on your phone set up reminder alerts that will pop up in the week before the due date. The alerts are generally invasive and require you to close them out ensuring that you will see them. If you keep your due dates someplace you frequently see them then it will be much harder to completely forget about them, though still possible.
Set Up Alerts
Another way to get yourself on track is to utilize the notifications feature on your credit card web accounts or push notifications on their apps. Many major credit card companies send you payment reminder texts or emails (or both) if you choose to receive them. Investigate your settings and turn those notifications on. They may be annoying but at least you will never forget a payment again!
Enable Automatic Payments
The easiest way to avoid missed or late payments is to take yourself completely out of the equation and turn on automatic payments. Simply link a checking or savings account to your credit card and the minimum monthly payment will be automatically deducted every month around the same time. If your income is unreliable or your account balances are erratic you may not like this option but it's the best way to ensure you are making payments on time.
